Philippine Scores Back-to-Back Wins in Jordan
The Philippine Embassy in Jordan, led by Charge d' Affaires, a.i. Angeli A. Payumo, proudly joins the nation in celebrating the back-to-back wins of the Philippine National Teams in basketball and boxing in games held in the capital city of Amman.
Gilas Pilipinas handed Jordan its first home court loss since September 2018 in the Window 5 match for the FIBA World Cup 2023 Qualifiers last 10 November with the final score 74-66. Tokyo Olympian Carlo Paalam followed with a gold medal after beating Kazakhstan's Makhmud Sabyrkhan via split decision in the Men's 54 kg Bantamweight class of the ASBC Asian Elite Men and Women Boxing Championships
2022 on 12 November.
Gilas' Thursday win against the Jordan Falcons also raised its team standing as the Philippines prepares to host the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 together with Japan and Indonesia.
Tokyo Olympian Nesthy Petecio and fellow National Boxing Team member Hergie Tao-Wag Bacyadan also scored two more wins for the country with their bronze finish in the Women's Featherweight 57kg class, and Women's Middleweight 75kg division, respectively. The National Boxing Team had been in Jordan since October 14 for a two-week training prior to the tournament proper.
The Philippine Embassy and the Filipino community in Jordan showed their force as they came out to support the Philippine teams who brought pride and joy to the nation.
