ASEAN Committee in Amman Celebrates ASEAN Day 2024
AMMAN, 05 September 2024 - The Philippine Embassy in Jordan led by His Excellency Wilfredo C. Santos joined the ASEAN Committee in Amman (ACA) in the celebration of the 57th ASEAN Day hosted by the Royal Thai Embassy as the current ACA Chair in its premises on 05 September 2024.
The special event was graced by the presence of the guests of honor, His Excellency Mr. Muawieh Radaideh, Minister of Environment of Jordan, and His Excellency Mr. Muhammad Abu Wandi, Director of the Department of Asia, Oceania and Africa, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan.
The event commenced with a speech by His Excellency Supark Prongthura, the Ambassador of Thailand to Jordan. It was followed by a flag-hoisting ceremony which included playing the ASEAN Anthem, also known as "The ASEAN Way".
A special video presentation highlighting the recent advancements within ASEAN was shown, showcasing how this regional organization has evolved into a vital pillar of political and economic collaboration in Southeast Asia. ASEAN promotes dialogue, trade, and cultural exchange among its diverse member nations.
The program proceeded with a special luncheon featuring representative dishes prepared by the five ASEAN member-states in Amman, namely Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand. The Philippines presented beef caldereta, lumpiang shanghai, siomai, and ube halaya, which earned praises from the attendees.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was established on 08 August 1967 through the signing of the Bangkok Declaration by the founding members, namely: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Since then, ASEAN has grown to include ten member-states in total, with Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia joining over the years. END
