PH Embassy in Jordan in Collaboration with MWO - Jordan Participates in the 2025 National Women’s Month Celebration with Filipino Migrant Workers
Amman, 25 March 2025 - The Gender and Development (GAD) advocacy focal persons of the Philippine Embassy in Amman, led by Mr. John Danilo G. Jiao, Jr. and Ms. Daphne S. Sarion, promoted GAD mainstreaming in line with the 2025 Women’s Month Celebration with the sub-theme, “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas,” to Filipino Migrant Workers, in a session conducted at the Migrant Workers Office - Jordan (MWO-Jordan) in Abdoun.
GAD Focal Point Officer, Mr. Jiao, emphasized the importance of workers’ rights, with particular focus on women’s rights. “The Philippine Embassy is organizing various initiatives to raise awareness about women's rights, gender equality, and the various services offered by the Embassy for the welfare and protection of our nationals”, he added.
The activity, attended by eighteen (18) Filipino women migrant workers, wrapped up with a screening of the short film "Azucar," which tells the story of a young woman thriving to support her family while unexpectedly falling in love with her employer, amidst the stark inequality between their families' social statuses. The film highlights the strength of a woman determined to build her life within the constraints of societal norms.
The session was supported by the Labor Attaché Armi Evangel Peña, Welfare Officer Rosalin Lavin, and Ms. Elijah Ang-Encarnacion, Secretary to the Ambassador and Attaché. END
