PH Embassy in Amman Hosts Diplomatic Reception Commemorating the 127th Anniversary of Philippine Independence

AMMAN 15 June 2025 – The Philippine Embassy in Amman, led by Ambassador Wilfredo C. Santos, hosted a diplomatic reception at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel to commemorate the 127th Anniversary of Philippine Independence. The event showcased Filipino hospitality, culture, and cuisine, with over 150 guests from the diplomatic corps, Jordanian government, media, and other distinguished sectors in attendance.
H.E. Dr. Nancy Namrouqa, Jordan’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, graced the occasion as Guest of Honor. In his remarks, Ambassador Santos expressed deep appreciation to His Majesty King Abdullah II for his continued support and protection of the Filipino community in Jordan.
This year also marks 49 years of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Jordan. Ambassador Santos reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation in trade, defense, labor, culture, and people-to-people exchange. He highlighted the shared goals of expanding opportunities for economic growth and cultural understanding between the two nations.
Ambassador Santos also reiterated the Philippines' call for the full, safe, and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza, and reaffirmed the country’s support for a two-state solution in accordance with UN General Assembly Resolution No. 181 and other relevant resolutions.
Looking ahead, Ambassador Santos invited Jordanian friends and partners to explore the Philippines through the “Love the Philippines” tourism campaign. He emphasized the country’s growing appeal to Muslim travelers, with halal-certified establishments and Muslim-friendly destinations including Manila, Davao, Cebu, and Boracay.
The evening featured a special cultural performance and video presentation of “Tara Na Biyahe Tayo” (“Let’s Travel”) by a Filipino performing group, and staff of the Philippine Embassy to promote Philippine tourism. Guests enjoyed a variety of Filipino delicacies including ube (purple yam) ice cream, beef lumpia (spring rolls), chicken empanada, chicken adobo tarts, and ensaymada (cheese brioche) from the dedicated Filipino Food Corner offering a taste of the Philippines’ rich and diverse culinary heritage. The event also featured a Cultural Corner Photo Booth that featured traditional Filipino artistry, Solihiya or rattan weaving display and different textiles from the Philippines, highlighting the country’s craftsmanship and design heritage.
Ambassador Santos concluded by announcing the upcoming 50th anniversary of Philippines-Jordan diplomatic relations in 2026, looking forward to celebrating this important milestone and further strengthening the enduring ties between the two nations. END
