09 June - In line with the celebration of 116th anniversary of Philippine independence, the Embassy of the Philippines in Amman, in partnership with the Royal Film Commission of Jordan and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), held the first-ever Filipino Film Days 2014 from 04 to 06 June 2014 at Rainbow Theater, in downtown Amman. The event featured the award-winning films, “Tanging Yaman” on June 04, “Himala” on June 05 and “Anak” on June 06.
The event officially opened with a simple reception on 04 June 2014, attended by Jordanian film enthusiasts, members of the diplomatic corps and members of the Filipino community in Amman, where biko, chicken adob, Skyflakes crackers and hot salabat were served. All the three nights were well-attended by around 150 guests who very much appreciated the films and lauded the Philippine film industry for its depiction of Filipino culture, family values, religious traditions and the strength of Filipinos, especially the film “Anak” with which the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Jordan, were able to relate with.
In view of the overwhelming positive feedback and public appreciation of this year’s Filipino Film Days, the Embassy intends to hold this event annually, more likely in the first week of June, as part of its celebration of Philippine Independence Day, as well as to educate the local community on the richness of Philippine culture, through films.
