The Federation of Filipino Organizations in Jordan (Fil-Org) launched its annual Sports Fest last May 11 at the Collegium Terrae Sanctae in Jabal Al-Weibdeh,Amman. Hundreds of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), members and non-members of the Fil-Org alike, flocked to the Collegium's gymnasium to cheer their friends, teams and family members.
In his message to the Filcom, Dr. Emmanuel R. Fernandez, Chargé d’ Affaires, a.i. of the Philippine Embassy to Jordan, said that sports can teach us a very valuable lesson about life and how to live it. He explained that just as we cannot win a game like volleyball or basketball if we do not think and act as a part of a team, the game of life cannot be won if we prefer to be on our own and deny our need for other people. In the "court of life" -- as in a basketball or a volleyball court – we need to join hands with other people in order to surmount the challenges that confront us and attain the goals we want to achieve.
Dr. Fernandez also took the opportunity to encourage the Filcom to register for the OAV, saying that the opportunity to choose our leaders in spite of our physical distance from the Philippines – through the mechanism provided by the OAV – is an opportunity every OFW must not throw away. Participating in the electoral process through the OAV is both a privilege and duty that every Filipino citizen abroad must value, Dr. Fernandez added.
The launching of Sports Fest 2012 was spiced up by the conferral of the Best Muse and Best Uniform awards.
The Sports Fest will feature basketball and volleyball games for the next couple of months. It will be held every Friday at the Collegium Terrae Sanctae, in Jabal Al-Weibdeh, Amman, from 8:00 am till 4:00 in the afternoon.
