The Philippine Embassy in Jordan celebrated this year’s Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa on August 19, 2022, at the Al Hussein Cultural Center, through simultaneous events of talent competition for young Filipino children, and a Filipino food festival. This year’s theme for the celebration was “Filipino at mga Katutubong Wika: Kasangkapan sa Pagtuklas at Paglikha".

The event was spearheaded by Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Angeli A. Payumo, together with the Philippine Ladies Group of the Philippine Embassy, Philippine Overseas Labor Office Jordan, and in cooperation with one of the biggest organizations of the Filipino community in Jordan—the United Filipino Organization (UFO).

A total of 53 Filipino children aged 7 to 15 years old showcased their talents individually or in groups in singing, dancing, playing musical instruments, poetry, and speech choir. Prizes were awarded to the top three performers from 14 performances.

Meanwhile, the Filipino community and other guests enjoyed a wide selection of delectable traditional Filipino dishes such as lechon manok, paksiw na bangus, caldereta, suman, halo-halo, and ube sorbetes, which were made available at the food booths just outside the talent competition venue.

The event aims to promote awareness and appreciation for the Philippine language and culture, heritage, and arts, especially among the children in Jordan of Filipino parentage, some of whom were born and raised here but have never set foot in the Philippines.
