PHILIPPINE EMBASSY RAISES OCEAN CONCERNS AWARENESS AMONG FILIPINO CHILDREN IN AMMAN WITH MANA MO 2022 ACTIVITIES

The Philippine Embassy in Jordan joined the nation in celebrating the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month 2022 (MANA Mo 2022) on September 30, 2022, with the theme “Our Seas, our livelihood, our life source: A whole-of-nation approach towards raising maritime and ocean awareness”.

Charge d affaires, a.i., Angeli A. Payumo, led the Friday activities which included a workshop on origami artwork and a story-telling session. In her remarks during the event, CDA Payumo explained to the children the importance of the ocean and marine life to humanity. She also highlighted how rich and diverse marine life is in the Philippines and also in Aqaba, Jordan, and taught them how they can help protect and conserve the ocean even at a young age.

The children had a good time with their parents and had the chance to unleash their skills in paper folding or origami artwork of sea creatures. They especially loved the colorful papers which they turned into a fish, a dolphin, a stingray, a crab, and a turtle. On the other hand, the story-telling session was a way to catch their attention and let them appreciate the beauty under the sea. Both activities aimed to build archipelagic consciousness in the minds of young Filipinos in Jordan. A total of 62 children ages 3-17 participated in these activities.
