The Philippine Embassy in Jordan, in cooperation with the Social Security System (SSS) and Pag-Ibig Fund, conducted a webinar on OFW benefits on Friday, March 17, 2023, via Zoom and Facebook live.

The webinar is part of the Embassy’s celebration of the National Women’s Month. Taking cognizance of the fact that 95% of the Filipino community in Jordan is composed of women, the Embassy sought to empower them for a better future through greater access to first-hand information on legitimate and safe investment instruments. Furthermore, the Embassy aimed to inculcate the mindset of goal-setting and saving and investing in preparation for their eventual return to the Philippines.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Wilfredo Santos stressed the importance of being financially capable for OFWs to secure their future, and how the government can help them achieve this goal. “Ang SSS at Pag-IBIG ay nagbibigay-daan sa ating OFWs sa mahahalagang benepisyo, pagma-manage ng inyong pinaghirapang pera, at ang kahalagahan ng pagkakaroon ng savings. This is in preparation for your future homecoming to the Philippines.”, Ambassador Santos said.

Mr. Edre Bayno, SSS Foreign Representative based in the Tel Aviv Representative Office at the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel, and Ms. Nova Kristal Pala, Team Leader of the Pag-IBIG Virtual Office for UAE and Kuwait based in Manila, Philippines, provided substantial information on SSS and Pag-IBIG programs and services, respectively.

Among the topics discussed were eligibility, benefits, and strategies for maximizing savings through the available instruments such as the Workers’ Investment and Savings Program (WISP) from SSS and Modified Pag-IBIG II (MP2) from Pag-IBIG. The webinar also allowed the participants to clarify their concerns and obtain valuable information from the resource persons. Overall, the participants gained a better understanding of their investment options from the two social welfare institutions of the Philippine government which can enable them to make informed decisions as OFWs for their retirement planning.

The webinar was streamed live on the Embassy’s official Facebook page. The public can re-watch it by clicking: https://fb.watch/jnQ7Cj2tPX/?mibextid=qC1gEa
