Philippine Embassy Prepares for the Repatriation of 60 Filipino Non-Marital Children
The Philippine Embassy sets in motion the preparation for the repatriation of 60 Filipino non-marital children after it has successfully obtained approval for their departure from Jordan.
In a meeting on 01 September 2023 with the mothers and Filipino Community Leaders, H.E. Wilfredo C. Santos announced that the Embassy has successfully secured an exceptional concession from the Jordanian Government which would facilitate the repatriation of the non-marital children and the waiving of their overstay penalties.
The Ambassador informed the mothers of the documentary requirements they need to prepare and the procedures that will be undertaken by the Embassy in coordination with Jordanian authorities to ensure the successful repatriation of the children to the Philippines.
The mothers and Filipino community leaders expressed their overwhelming joy and their willingness to comply with the requirements and procedures. The personal circumstances of the mothers has previously barred them from obtaining a Jordanian Birth Certificate- a necessary document which needs to be presented to Jordan’s immigration authorities when a child travels outside the country. Through the representations made by the Embassy, Jordan has waived the Jordanian Birth Certificate requirement and now allows the 60 children to go home to the Philippines.
The said repatriation will be a joint effort of the Embassy with the Migrant Workers’ Office- Jordan, which shall provide plane tickets for the children.
A total of forty-five (45) Filipino community leaders and mothers attended the meeting. Joining Ambassador Santos at the meeting were Third Secretary and Vice Consul Sheila Marie G. Andales, ATN Section Head Mr. Francisco Magno, Ms. Ma. Jolina Guerrero, Mr. Issa Mofleh, Administrative Officer Mr. John Danilo Jiao, Jr., Cultural Officer Ms. Elijah Ang-Encarnacion, and MWO officers, Assistant Labor Attaché Mr. Jaybee John Vincent Baginda, and Welfare Officer Mr. Angel Cruz.
