Simbang Gabi 1

On December 24, 2023, the Philippine Embassy in Jordan, under the leadership of His Excellency Wilfredo C. Santos, had the honor of sponsoring the Misa de Gallo at the St. Joseph Parish Church in Jabal, Amman.

It was presided over by the only Filipino Chaplain in the Kingdom, Rev. Fr. Gerard Joaquin Masangya. In his homily, Rev. Fr. Masangya shared that as the Christmas season commemorates the birth of the Savior, it is also a reminder that Christmas is not only a day of celebration but also a day of salvation for humanity. Fr. Masangya then hoped for his message to resonate with believers and non-believers alike, and to serve as a source of inspiration for people of all faiths and backgrounds.

Before the mass celebration ended, Ambassador Wilfredo C. Santos, addressed the Filipino community with a meaningful Christmas message. The Ambassador's words of inspiration and encouragement brought joy and unity to all in attendance, and underscored the Embassy's unwavering commitment to support the welfare of Filipinos in Jordan.

“Christmas is indeed a special time of the year when we come together to celebrate and cherish the things that matter most in life. It is a time for sharing, giving, and forgiving, where we open our hearts to those around us and spread love and joy. It is an opportunity to reflect on the blessings we have received and to show gratitude for them. Let us ponder what we can do to become etter persons, citizens, and Filipino community members.” Ambassador Santos said.

Ambassador Santos also thanked the parishioners for their active involvement in the programs of the Philippine Embassy throughout the year. In closing, Ambassador Santos shared his appreciation for the significant role that the church plays in the community, and hopes to continue to work together toward common goals.

The Misa de Gallo was a significant mass celebration for the Filipino catholic community in Jordan. It is the midnight mass that marks the culmination of the revered Filipino Catholic tradition of nine-day novena masses leading up to Christmas Eve. END
