PH Ambassador to Jordan Takes Over Chairmanship of the ASEAN Committee in Amman

Philippine Ambassador to Jordan Wilfredo C. Santos accepts the symbolic turnover of the chairmanship of the ASEAN Committee in Amman (ACA) from His Excellency Mohamad Nasri Abdul Rahman, Malaysian Ambassador to Jordan, and ACA Chair for 2023.

AMMAN 10 January 2024 — Philippine Ambassador to Jordan Wilfredo C. Santos takes over the chairmanship of the ASEAN Committee in Amman (ACA) from His Excellency Mohamad Nasri Abdul Rahman, Malaysian Ambassador to Jordan during the ACA's first meeting of the year on 10 January 2024 at the Sheraton Hotel Amman. The six-month term of the Philippines’ chairmanship will cover the period from 01 January 2024 to 30 June 2024.

In his acceptance speech, Ambassador Santos congratulated Malaysian Ambassador to Jordan Mohamad Nasri Abdul Rahman for his outstanding leadership, dedication, and tireless efforts that have significantly contributed to the advancement of cooperation and understanding among ASEAN member states and Jordan during his tenure as the Chair.

As the Philippines takes the helm of ASEAN representation in Jordan for 2024, Ambassador Santos said that during his tenure, ACA will focus on strengthening the bonds of people-to-people connection among ASEAN member states and various partners in Jordan. 

"ASEAN has been a beacon of unity, promoting dialogue and cooperation among its diverse member states. Amman serves as a vital hub for ASEAN activities, and I am excited about the opportunities ahead. We can leverage our collective strength to promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of ASEAN among our Jordanian partners in pursuit of ASEAN’s objectives in the region," Ambassador Santos said.

“With your support, I aim to reflect our commitment to harnessing the strength that comes from our unique differences. We will foster stronger camaraderie and friendship, celebrate diversity, promote inclusivity, and find common ground to contribute to the greater good of the ASEAN community and Jordan,” he added.

The symbolic handover was attended by ACA members composed of Ambassadors of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand. END
