09 February 2024 - The Embassy of the Philippines in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan conducted its first dialogue of the year with the leaders of the Filipino community on 09 February 2024 and provided updates on programs and projects for Filipino nationals in Jordan.

Ambassador Santos informed the leaders of the Embassy’s efforts in building a mapping database of Filipinos in Jordan. The said database, he said, is critical especially in times of crisis and other unforeseen events. Nonetheless, Ambassador Santos assured the community that Jordan remains a safe country.

The Filcom leaders received updates on the repatriation of non-marital children to the Philippines as well. The Embassy disclosed that 53 children, along with their Filipina mothers, have been repatriated in collaboration with the Migrant Workers Office (MWO). Efforts to repatriate the remaining children are currently underway.

The ongoing Overseas Voting Registration (OVR) until September 30, 2024, was also addressed. All Filipino nationals are encouraged to register for the forthcoming national midterm elections scheduled for April to May 2025. The Embassy emphasized that OVR is accessible to the Filipino community from Sunday to Thursday, between 8:00 AM and 12:00 noon. A valid passport is the sole requirement for registration.

Labor Attaché Armi Evangel N. Peña then reiterated to the Filcom leaders that all labor-related issues and matters, including those concerning undocumented workers, will be handled by the MWO.

Towards the end of the meeting, Ambassador Santos thanked the attendees for their cooperation and reiterated that the Embassy is always open and ready to help fellow kababayans. The meeting was led by Ambassador Wilfredo C. Santos, Consul Angeli A. Payumo, Vice Consul Sheila Marie G. Andales, Labor Attaché Armi Evangel N. Peña, and other Embassy and Migrant Workers Office (MWO) officials and staff, and attended by leaders from various Filipino community organizations. END
