Philippine Embassy Successfully Holds Bagong Pilipinas Town Hall Meeting with the Filipino Community
The Philippine Embassy in Jordan, under the leadership of His Excellency Ambassador Wilfredo C. Santos, successfully held the Bagong Pilipinas Town Hall Meeting at the Bayanihan Hall of the Embassy on 01 March 2024, which aimed to introduce Bagong Pilipinas, the Philippine government's new platform of governance, to overseas Filipinos. Around fifty (50) leaders and key members of the Filipino community in Jordan attended the meeting.
Bagong Pilipinas is defined as a unifying framework of ideas, values, and beliefs that aims to inspire the nation to strive towards elevating the Philippines to new heights rooted in a wholesome awareness of what is already ours and a shared vision for a better future.
During the meeting, Second Secretary and Consul Angeli A. Payumo of the Philippine Embassy emphasized that Bagong Pilipinas is a call for transformation. It calls for the transformation of the idea of being Filipino, the way we present ourselves to each other and to the rest of the world, and the transformation of our economy, governance, and society. To achieve this, she further explained that it needs the collective effort of Filipinos, wherever they are in the world, to affirm their trust and confidence in the government, end the culture of negativity, and become self-affirming, self-loving, and mutually encouraging people.
In addition, the meeting also covered how Bagong Pilipinas translates to the services of the Embassy and Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Jordan. Consul Payumo also relayed to the Filipino community that the Embassy is dedicated to continuously finding ways to enhance the services to better serve the Filipino people.
One of the highlights of the meeting was the video message of the President of the government’s plan for the Overseas Filipino Workers. Bagong Pilipinas is firm that Filipinos can prosper in the Philippines. It calls on all Filipinos to think of the importance of civic-spiritedness that makes them turn to the needs of their fellow Filipinos and do their share in making things better for the country, despite the attractive lure of employment opportunities abroad.
Philippine Embassy and MWO Jordan’s officers and staff were also present during the meeting. END
