AMMAN 18 April 2024 – The Philippine Embassy in Amman, led by Philippine Ambassador to Jordan Wilfredo C. Santos, attended the House of Representatives Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs briefing on 18 April 2024 concerning the Philippine Government's efforts to address the current situation in the Middle East under the One Country Team Approach (OCTA).

The Philippine Embassy in Jordan joined the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in briefing the Members of Congress on the latest developments in the region and the contingency measures in place to ensure the safety and security of over 40,000 Filipinos in the Kingdom and 121 in the West Bank.

With regards to the Embassy’s contingency plan, the Philippine Embassy in Amman assured the Committee that it stands ready to assist Filipinos in case of any eventuality.

DFA Undersecretary for Migration Affairs Eduardo José A. De Vega highlighted during the briefing that 136 out of the 137 Filipino nationals in Gaza have been repatriated to the Philippines despite no physical presence on the ground, an indication of the effectivity of the Embassy's contingency plan. The only Filipino national left in Gaza is a nun who has decided to stay in the enclave to complete her mission.

The session was also attended by officials from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration (OWWA), Department of National Defense (DND), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Bureau of Immigration (BI), and Philippine Embassies in Tel Aviv, Amman, Cairo, Beirut, and Tehran.

The Philippine Embassy in Jordan reiterates its call for Filipinos in the Kingdom who have not yet registered in the citizen mapping database of the Embassy to do so by filling the online Citizen Registration form at http://tinyurl.com/Filipinos-InJordan.
