Philippine Embassy in Jordan Hosts Diplomatic Reception in Commemoration of 126th Philippine Independence Day
The Philippine Embassy in Jordan, led by His Excellency Ambassador Wilfredo C. Santos, hosted a diplomatic reception in honor and in commemoration of the 126th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence and Nationhood at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Amman on 12 June 2024.
Mr. Wajih Azaizeh, the Minister of State of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, graced the event as the Guest of Honor.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Santos highlighted the 48 years of diplomatic relations based on mutual understanding and cooperation between the Philippines and Jordan. He also emphasized the significance of the occasion, celebrating achievements and expressing hopes for future collaborations and successes.
“Economic ties between our countries have fostered investment and trade ventures, while cultural exchanges have bridged our peoples, deepening our understanding of each other’s heritage, traditions, and values. These interactions have promoted tolerance, diversity, and friendship, further strengthening our bond and benefiting both sides from our complementary economies.” Ambassador Santos said.
He further acknowledged Jordan’s magnanimity in hosting and providing a welcoming environment to around 41, 000 Filipinos who have made a second home in the Kingdom.
“This generosity further extends to the Filipinos from the West Bank when Jordan ensures safe transit as they escape the continuing violence in that area, brought about by the latest conflict that began on October 7, 2023. Jordan's assistance in these difficult times highlights the strong bond and mutual respect between our nations, reinforcing our shared commitment to humanitarian values and international solidarity.”, Ambassador Santos added.
Ambassador Santos’ remarks were followed by the Independence Day video message of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr., and a video presentation highlighting the diplomatic relations between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Philippines. Following this, Ambassador Santos, along with ASEAN Ambassadors and the Guest of Honor, participated in a cake-cutting ceremony, symbolizing the enduring friendship and close bonds between ASEAN and the host country.
Around 150 distinguished guests, including diplomats and government officials, were in attendance to mark this significant occasion. This is the second Independence Day event hosted by the Embassy following the breakfast with the Filipino community on 07 June 2024. END
