PH Ambassador Santos Successfully Concludes Chairmanship of ASEAN Committee in Amman, Hosts 13th ACA Meeting

AMMAN 10 July 2024 - Philippine Ambassador to Jordan Wilfredo C. Santos hosted the 13th ASEAN Committee in Amman (ACA), and concluded his ACA Chairmanship with a turnover ceremony on 10 July 2024 at the St. Regis Hotel in Amman.
Under his chairmanship, Ambassador Santos endeavored to strengthen and deepen the bonds between ASEAN member states and partners in Jordan through various initiatives and collaborative efforts in the first half of 2024. This chairmanship period from January to June 2024 was marked by significant achievements in enhancing diplomatic relations and promoting cultural exchanges.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Santos thanked each ACA member for their unwavering support and collaborative spirit that have been instrumental in these collective accomplishments.
Ambassador Santos said, “Our efforts in the realm of education and training have opened new avenues for cooperation. By engaging with academic and diplomatic institutions in Jordan, we have laid the groundwork for future partnerships that will drive knowledge exchange and capacity building in our region.”
“Furthermore, our economic engagements have provided valuable platforms for dialogue, facilitating business connections and promoting trade and investment opportunities. These efforts have brought us closer to further deepening the economic ties between our countries and Jordan, contributing to mutual growth and prosperity,” Ambassador Santos added.
Key accomplishments under Philippines’ chairmanship include the successful conduct of high-level meetings with: Dr. Natheer Obeidat, University of Jordan President on January 31; Her Excellency Haifa Al Khraisha, Director of the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy on February 05; Dr. Nidal Al-Ahmad, Director-General of the National Library on February 12; MFAE Chief of Protocol and Department of Asia and Oceania Affairs Director on February 15; Her Excellency Haifa Al-Najjar, Minister of Culture on March 18; Her Excellency Nesreen Barakat, Jordan Strategy Forum Chief Executive Officer on May 21; and the hosting of Madame Geraldine C. Lucero-Santos, spouse of Ambassador Santos, of the ASEAN Ladies Circle in Amman (ALCA) Coffee Morning and Luncheon Meeting on 04 June 2024.
Ambassador Santos turned over the ACA Chairmanship to Thai Ambassador to Jordan Supark Prongthura.
Established during the meeting of ASEAN Ambassadors in Amman on 29 April 2008, the ACA members are composed of the Ambassadors of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand. The Committee is supported by Political/Economic Officers from each Embassy constituting the ACA Working Group.
Ambassador Santos was accompanied by Second Secretary and Consul Angeli A. Payumo, and Third Secretary and Vice Consul Sheila Marie G. Andales, members of the ACA Working Group. END
