Philippine Embassy Attends the Opening of the 14th Season of the CBA Summer Basketball Tournament
The Philippine Embassy in Jordan led by His Excellency Wilfredo C. Santos attended the Opening of the 14th Season of the Chefs’ Basketball Association (CBA) Summer Basketball Tournament at the Our Lady of Nazareth School in Jabal Hussein, Amman on 19 July 2024.
Ambassador Santos highlighted the importance of sports in fostering camaraderie and strengthening community ties in his opening remarks.
"The CBA Summer Basketball Tournament is more than just a competition," Ambassador Santos said. "It is an avenue that provides organizations like CBA to organize recreational activities that promote the welfare of its members and allow the Filipino community to come together and thus contribute to our unity as a people," he continued.
Ambassador Santos then lauded the CBA for initiatives that bring people together and promote a healthy, active lifestyle among the Filcom members participating in the basketball league. He reminded the players “to play hard, to play well, to play with determination and conviction, but always in the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie”.
The event brought together ten (10) participating teams mostly composed of Filipino students and chefs. Ambassador Santos conducted the ceremonial toss with the respective captains of each team.
One of the highlights of the event was the awarding of the Best in Uniform Award. Ambassador Santos, along with other officials from the Embassy and Migrant Workers Office, presented the team Believers with such recognition.
The opening ceremony concluded with the inaugural jump ball to kick off the first game. The CBA Summer Basketball tournament is scheduled to take place every Friday from July to October. The CBA regularly organizes basketball tournaments every summer and winter season. END
