Philippine Embassy in Jordan Commemorates Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa

In commemoration of the Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa held every August of each year, the Philippine Embassy in Jordan led by His Excellency Wilfredo C. Santos, organized a series of activities to celebrate and promote the rich linguistic and cultural heritage of the Philippines.

The Embassy launched its first-ever Cultural and Advocacy Corner, located at the Consular Section of the chancery. It is a vibrant space designed to celebrate the diversity of Filipino culture and promote meaningful dialogue among the community. The corner showcases various cultural items representing the Philippines such as native abaca bags, freshwater pearls, native frames, miniature Philippine traditional vehicles, dolls and life-sized mannequins wearing traditional Filipiniana. This initiative aims to highlight and promote the rich heritage and culture of the Philippines through locally-made products, and provide a platform for Embassy guests and visitors including Filipino community members to interact, educate themselves about the Philippines, and exchange their own cultural backgrounds.

A television monitor can also be found in the corner, where the digital poster provided by the Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino (KWF), and other social media collaterals provided by the Department of Foreign Affairs on Buwan ng Wika are displayed continuously on a loop. The same online collaterals were likewise shared on the Embassy’s social media pages for wider audience reach. 

With this year’s theme “Filipino, Wikang Mapagpalaya,” this commemoration is an important reminder of the role our national language plays in fostering unity and understanding among Filipinos wherever they may be. 

The corner also includes books related to the Philippine language and history, in conjunction with the commemoration of Buwan ng Kasaysayan, also held every August. For this year, the theme of Buwan ng Kasaysayan is  "Salaysay ng Bayan, Saysay ng Bansa", which aims to emphasize the significance of studying history as a key element in shaping a nation's historical narrative. 

Through these activities, the Philippine Embassy in Jordan aims to foster unity and appreciation for the Filipino community in Jordan for their shared cultural and historical heritage. It also provides Jordanians and other foreign guests with exposure to Philippine culture and historical background, fostering mutual respect and understanding between the two nations. END
