Gender and Development and Overseas Voters’ Field Registration Outreach Activities of the Philippine Embassy
On 30 August 2024, the Philippine Embassy in Jordan conducted Gender and Development (GAD) and Overseas Voters’ Field Registration outreach activities at the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) - Jordan, during the latter’s regularly scheduled Onsite Integration Program (OIP) training on bread making and baking organized by the MWO-OWWA for members of the Filipino community working in Amman.
More than thirty overseas Filipinos availed of MWO’s program where they were also provided a briefing on gender issues and women’s rights. The Embassy GAD focal persons shared information on gender and development topics and the support services available to migrant workers, including the extensive assistance offered by the Embassy and its attached agencies, such as the MWO and OWWA. Emphasizing the significance of understanding gender dynamics and related issues, this endeavor illustrates the Embassy and its attached agencies' commitment in enhancing the well-being and empowerment of Filipino migrant workers in Jordan.
With the support of the COMELEC and DFA-Overseas Voting Secretariat, the initiative to register overseas voters aims to ensure that Filipino citizens residing in Amman and surrounding areas will have the opportunity to participate in next year’s National Elections. Around thirteen individuals availed of the voters services provided such as registering as first-time voters, re-activation, transfer of records, and updating their personal records.
The Embassy outreach mission team also processed applications for Embassy IDs, numbering around 40, which were released to the applicants real time. The team also addressed general consular inquiries and made sure that every inquiry received was properly addressed with the importance it required. All the applicants expressed much appreciation for the embassy's initiative in closely engaging its constituents and making the registration process and its other services more accessible.
The Embassy outreach mission team is composed of its GAD Focal Point Officer (GFPO) and Administrative Officer John Danilo Jiao, Jr., Alternate GFPO and Consular Assistant Daphne Sarion, Cultural Officer and Voter Registration Officer Ms. Elijah Ang-Encarnacion, and Communications and Protocol Officer Allan Oseo, Jr.
