PH Embassy, Philippine Trade Training Center Focus on Gastrodiplomacy to Promote Filipino Cuisine in Jordan
17 September 2024 - The Philippine Embassy, through its Political and Economic Section, recently convened a virtual meeting with the Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC) to explore opportunities to empower the presence of Filipino cuisine in Jordan as well as provide training and knowledge to Filipino culinary start-ups on skills needed in the culinary industry and build sustainable food-related businesses.
The Embassy believes that through gastrodiplomacy, a country can significantly enhance and promote its culture and national image and foster international connections through the universal language of food. By showcasing Filipino cuisine, the Philippines can share its unique cultural identity and heritage and increase presence and demand for Filipino food internationally as well as boost tourism and economic growth. This also helps in building a positive image of the country and positioning it as a desirable choice for Jordanian and expatriate consumers.
The PTTC welcomed the collaboration efforts of the Philippine Embassy and expressed their full support of the Embassy’s initiatives to raise awareness and appreciation for Filipino cuisine as it aligns with PTTC’s mission and national objective to help and promote MSMEs in advancing their skills and competencies to make them more innovative and globally competitive.
The PTTC, under the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), is an agency that develops training modules on export and import techniques and procedures, raises the level of awareness of Philippine businessmen on export opportunities; offers specialized courses directed at overcoming barriers to overseas market penetration; and conducts training programs in international trade practices, inspection techniques, and exhibition mounting.
The meeting was attended by Second Secretary and Consul Angeli A. Payumo, Political and Economic Assistant Ma. Jolina M. Guerrero. The PTTC was represented by Ms. Kristine Angelika T. Liu of Food Connect Division, Mr. Neil Van Velez and Mr. Kyrin Christian V. Pango of Program and Module Development Division. END.
