Philippine Embassy Marks the 128th Anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal's Martyrdom
The Philippine Embassy in Jordan, under the leadership of His Excellency Wilfredo C. Santos, commemorates the 128th anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal's martyrdom with a solemn ceremony at the Embassy Bayanihan Hall on 29 December 2024. Ambassador Santos honored the national hero by laying a bouquet of flowers at his bust. The theme of the 128th Anniversary of the martyrdom of Jose Rizal is: Rizal sa Bagong Pilipinas: Buhay at Aral, Aming Nilalandas (Rizal in the New Philippines: Life and Teachings, as our Guide).
In his special remarks, Ambassador Santos called for action, urging everyone to contribute to the progress of the country in both big and small ways. “As we remember Dr. Jose Rizal and his heroism, let us reflect on the values he stood for: selflessness, loyalty, and love for the country. Let us honor him not just as a hero of the past, but as a symbol of hope for the future. Rizal’s legacy also encourages us to look beyond our personal interests and work for the common good, to be responsible citizens of our nation, and to always seek justice, truth, and compassion. Wherever we are in the world, let us be inspired by his example, striving to create a society where the dignity of every person is upheld, while also looking forward with optimism towards the future that lies ahead.”, Ambassador Santos said.
The program also included playing of videos from the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, on the life and works of Rizal. The National Historical Commission of the Philippines is the government agency that leads the Rizal Day commemoration, promoting awareness and appreciation of Rizal's contributions to the nation's history and identity. Rizal Day is celebrated every December 30 of each year to honor Dr. José Rizal, the Philippine national hero, on the anniversary of his 1896 execution in Manila. END
