In Loving Memory of Ambassador Ruperto M. Dizon

Amb. Dizon

The Philippine Embassy in Amman mourns the passing of Ambassador Ruperto M. Dizon, a distinguished Filipino diplomat whose career was marked by dedication to public service. He was the 4th Philippine Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan with concurrent jurisdiction over the State of Palestine. He was 85 years old.

Ambassador Dizon re-opened the Philippine Embassy in Jordan in 1998. Born in Magalang, Pampanga, he served as the Philippine Ambassador to Jordan for seven years from 1998 until his retirement in 2005- a period during which he played a pivotal role in strengthening bilateral relations between the Philippines and Jordan.

His tenure in Jordan was notable for addressing the needs and concerns of the growing number of OFWs in the country.  In recognition of his outstanding service, King Abdullah of Jordan conferred upon him the Order of Independence, First Class, highlighting his efforts in fostering and advancing friendly and mutually beneficial bilateral relations between the two nations.

Prior to his assignment in Jordan, Ambassador Dizon served as the Philippine Chargé d’Affaires in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with concurrent jurisdiction over Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay from 1978 to 1986.  His exemplary service in Argentina was recognized by the Argentine Government through the conferment of the Order of the Liberator General Jose de San Martin, the highest Argentine decoration given exclusively to those who, in the exercise of their functions, are deserving of the high honor and recognition of the Argentine people.

In 2012, the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila, through Secretary Albert del Rosario, conferred upon Ambassador Dizon the Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his exemplary service as a diplomat.

Ambassador Dizon's legacy is one of unwavering commitment to the Filipino people and the nation’s interests abroad.  His contributions have left an indelible mark on Philippine diplomacy, and he is remembered with deep respect and admiration.

We extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to his wife, Dr. Erlinda F. Dizon, and the rest of his bereaved family. END
